Warhammer Fantasy Role Play 3rd Edition Trailer
2It seems while I was busy offline FFG released a new trailer for the upcoming WHFRP 3E game. While I have to admit that the components (cards, dice, sheets) look very good, I just can’t see how this is going to improve the role-playing experience.
Some of the game play elements like the party sheet just sounds too much like something you would have in a board or card game but IMHO it doesn’t really fit into what I expect from a role-playing game.
The other problem is the price tag. $100 is a lot of money and most of that money goes into cards and custom dice that you a) definitely will need to play the game (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise) and b) are easily lost. Especially in times where people think twice before buying a new role-playing game, especially when you need to buy a supplement to have more than 3 or 4 players.
I love FFG’s board games and from what I’ve heard the recently released Rogue Trader is an awesome role-playing game, but I don’t think the new Warhammer Fantasy Role Play is a game for me.
Lazy Friday Video Post: Tom et ses chums!
3This short comedy about French-Canadian D&D players is one of my favorite RPG-related comedy videos. The two old-school players who take their game much too serious are priceless!
The video is in French but English subtitles are provided. The video comes in two parts that I have embedded below! Enjoy!
Have a nice weekend! And remember: “Don’t take your game (and yourself) too seriously! It should still be fun!”
Please show me your homemade GM screens!

Some time ago, the German blog System matters had a post about home-made GM screens. I really liked the idea and linked to that post on my blog and obviously a lot of my readers enjoyed having a look at other people’s GM screens.
That’s why I would like to do the same here. Please send me photographs of your home-made GM screens. You can send the photos in JPG or PNG format to info (at) stargazersworld.com and please make sure, each photo is not larger than 1MB in size. If you want to send me more than one photo, that’s ok, but please don’t exceed a maximum of 5 photos per email. It would be great if you could also provide me with how you want to be called in the post, what game you use the GM screen for and you may even write down a paragraph about how you created it or everything else you want to share with us.
I will then select the photos that impressed me most and will post them here on the blog. If I get more photos than I can fit into one post, I will either set up a gallery here one the blog and/or split up the post into multiple parts.
If you already have posted your GM screen on the web you can of course just post a link to the photo in the comments below!
I am throwing my hat into the ring!

This morning I’ve decided to throw my hat into the ring to be the community selected representative on the RPGBN Advisory Panel.
If you have no idea, what I am talking about, you should probably check out the blog “A Terrible Idea” by Duane O’Brien. Duane is the new guy in charge of the RPG Bloggers Network and he wants to form an Advisory Panel. Three members of this panel will be selected by him, a fourth will be elected by the community.
Since I very much enjoy being a member of the RPGBN and the great community that has developed around it, I want to give something back by providing some help and advice to the guy in charge!
Duane will post details on the voting process soon, so stay tuned. And I would be honored if some of you give their vote to me.
Ask The Readers: Do you keep your hobby a secret?
24
Roleplaying games are still a niche hobby. Most people probably know computer and video games. A lot of people enjoy board and card games but there’s only a minority of people who list roleplaying games as one of their hobbies. The funny thing is that probably nobody would lie about playing poker, a lot of people actually hide being a roleplaying game fan.
Why is that the case? First the RPG hobby is not widely known. Most people who hear the word roleplay think about French maids and cop uniforms or believe you’re talking about your last session at the psychotherapist’s.
And a few people who know what you are talking about, think you must be an evil Satanist. Thanks to Patricia Pulling and her group BADD (Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons) a lot of people still believe today that roleplaying game enthusiasts are evil devil worshippers. *sigh*
So, a lot of people keep their hobby a secret because they fear these misconceptions may get them in trouble with friends, family and coworkers. I have to admit it’s not as bad in Germany. From what I know the Anti-D&D craze hasn’t been as bad in Europe, and I can openly talk about my hobby without someone freaking out about it. I even wear my geek t-shirts at work. Of course I have to explain what these games are about quite often. But I have never got any negative reactions as far I can remember.
Do you keep your hobby a secret? Or can you talk about RPGs with your friends, family and perhaps even coworkers openly?
