#RPGaDay2017 Day 3: Inquiring minds want to know

Thank you for coming back dear reader. I hope you are all having fun with #RPGaDay207.  If you missed yesterday’s post you can find it right here. Now, on to today’s topic:

August 3: How do you find out about new RPGs?

The internet has changed how we consume information. When I first went online I was a passive consumer of content. I would visit boards ad pages and read up on the latest news on my favorite games. Slowly as I began to interact with people online, posting in forums, eventually writing here in the blog, eventually getting the chance to chat with some game creators, I stopped being a passive consumer of gaming news and seeking out what interested me.

I don’t want to suggest I’m the most connected guy, far from it! But In the age of social media, where you can tweet to the writer or company you want more information of, then finding out about new RPGs is a matter of staying connected to the right people. When you know what you like and of other fans who have similar tastes, you tailor your information content to your specific liking.

I’m an avid Facebook user (hey, don’t judge me!), followed by Twitter and a little Google+. I Also visit certain webpages and blogs for news, but many companies and creators I follow actively on Twitter. Here are a few accounts or games and creators I enjoy and which I follow to learn of their new projects:

Kobold Press – @KoboldPress

Pinnacle Entertainment – @Peggie

Monte Cook Games – @MonteCookGames

Paizo – @paizo

D&D Wizards of the Coast – @Wizards_DnD

Chaosium – @Chaosium_Inc

I also regularly visit EN World. I started visiting the page daily way back when they were focused on the news of the upcoming D&D 3rd edition, and I still visit it, especially for their Kickstarter news and columns, and in particular those by Christopher Helton!

I follow a few creators on YouTube, and recently Discovered Eric from Bloat Games. I find his candor, enthusiasm and good humor contagious. He’s a source of OSR news for me!

With my recently renewed interest on RPGS in Spanish, there are also two Twitter accounts about gaming news in Spanish I discovered and now follow regularly:

Juegos y Dados@juegosydados

Sevilla Rol@SevillaRol
