Legacy D&D
Sex Advice from D&D players
0Recently I stumbled upon an article that gives sex advice written by D&D gamers. The article is a bit unclear on who has asked the questions and who were the person (or persons) answering, but it’s a funny read nevertheless. But I would have loved to read more about the background to that post. Here’s one of my favorite pieces of advice:
My girlfriend and I have been together five years, and things are getting a little boring. We’ve been thinking about role-playing to spice things up. Is this a good idea?
If we’re talking about the intersection of D&D and sex, it is my firm opinion that that kind of role-playing has no place in the bedroom. Leave Arakos the Dragonslayer at the table. Also, dice in bed would probably be a bit like walking on legos; those d4s are basically caltrops. On the other hand, if you leave the DM’s Guide on the shelf and break out the skimpy costumes, you could be in for a good time. If you play D&D, you have great experience for getting in character — but you can’t rely on rolling a twenty for a good performance. Sorry. You have to do the work yourself.

This reminds me of a running gag in Phil Foglio’s “What’s New?” comic:

Lazy Friday Video Post: Ballad of the Monster Manual
0Usually I don’t post two Lazy Friday Video Posts on one day, but this is a special exception! The following video, that I found on BoingBoing a few minutes ago, is just too awesome not to be shared immediately!
Monster Manual from Dan Meth on Vimeo.
Enjoy!
Lazy Friday Video Post: Dungeons & Dragons TV series intro
6I remember having seen a few episodes of this series a few years back and I still don’t understand why anyone thought this TV show was a good idea. And by the way, since when are Cavalier and Acrobat base classes in D&D. Or am I missing something here?
I think I have to wash out my eyes with bleach after watching this again. Be back next week!
Another news scare-story about D&D from the 80s
2On BoingBoing I discovered this mid-80s video about D&D driving kids to suicide. As special treat it features young Cory Doctorow (Canadian blogger and SF author) and his classmates. If you have trouble spotting him, he’s the “kid with the huge cheeks, standing up in the left side of the frame at 3:05 and onward.”
You can find part #1 of the documentation here. Enjoy!
Lazy Friday Video Post: Vintage D&D Commercial
4Now I understand why people believed D&D was utterly evil. This commercial from the 1980s makes me shiver!
And did we really wear these clothes back in the ‘80?
Lazy Friday Video Post: Tom et ses chums!
3This short comedy about French-Canadian D&D players is one of my favorite RPG-related comedy videos. The two old-school players who take their game much too serious are priceless!
The video is in French but English subtitles are provided. The video comes in two parts that I have embedded below! Enjoy!
Have a nice weekend! And remember: “Don’t take your game (and yourself) too seriously! It should still be fun!”

4This video shows us why you never should invite your mom to play D&D!
You have been warned!
