WR&M
Guerrero, Pícaro y Mago
0Warrior, Rogue & Mage has been translated into Spanish! You can check out the game’s announcement on the Arcano XIII blog and download the complete game here.
As I said before, the guys behind the translation project have done a great job and the final product is just looking great.
The team around José Muñoz is currently thinking about translating all the existing supplements and some of the Arcano XIII members are developing their own material for the game.
If you are a Spanish-speaking roleplayer, please check Guerrero, Pícaro y Mago out. I hope you enjoy it!
Update: WR&M in Spanish
1Yesterday I got the final PDF of the Spanish translation of WR&M. I have to admit I can’t judge the quality of the translation since I don’t speak Spanish, but I am very happy with the layout and the artwork of this book. The guys from Arcano XIII really put a lot of work into this project, there’s no doubt about that.
When everything goes as planned they’ll officially release it on their blog on the upcoming weekend. I’ll update this post with a link to the PDF as soon as it goes life.
Character Concepts: The old hero…
8
Just as I am more of a lover than a fighter (and no I’m not giving you any references so you can confirm this, you better take my word for it), I am more of a Game Master than a Player. I’ve spoken about this before, but it boils down to the fact that I actually enjoy telling the story, weaving a yarn along with my players, more than being just one of the protagonists. It was the very first thing I did when I role-played and I fell in love with it from the very first time.
That being said I have enjoyed sitting on the other side of the screen form time to time. Since I usually talk about being a GM I thought it would be nice to turn the table and talk about being a player for a change. This is not a post about an NPC (although you could certainly turn him into one) but an actual character concept I developed for a game.
One caveat, I remember the character concept but the exact moment it materialized is lost in time. I recall the concept, not all the fiddly bits of how it germinated, so I apologize to my friend Luis who was there when the concept emerged if I mix up the memories. This is the story how I remember it.
Two new WYRED releases
0
I think I have talked about WYRED before. It’s a cyberpunk roleplaying game written by R.E. Davis aka Rev.Lazaro and powered by the Wyrm System. Today he released two new versions of it:
Rough Draft 5 is the final iteration of the normal d6-based rules. But he didn’t stop there. Rough Draft 6 uses a new d12 mechanic, which is something I actually planned for the SF variant of Wyrm. From what I’ve seen WYRED has a lot of promise and if you are into the genre you definitely should check it out!
You can get the details on both releases here.
Warrior, Rogue & Mage en Español
1A while back a gentleman by the name of Jose Muñoz contacted me on behalf of a Spanish group of roleplayers called Arcano XIII that was interested in translating Warrior, Rogue & Mage into Spanish. Since I released WR&M under a Creative Commons license they of course didn’t need my permission, but I think it was a nice gesture and they even keep me up-to-date about the translation process.
A couple of days ago they sent me a layout example and I have to admit it looks very nice. Check it out:
The final PDF version is not done yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as it’s out. I feel honored that people actually find my little game interesting enough to do the hard work of translating it into another language. By the way, the Spanish version is not the only translation of WR&M currently in the works. As far as I know there are currently people working on a German and a Hebrew translation of WR&M. I can’t wait to see them released as well!
Describing the Indescribable
3For many creative people, a blank space is an inspiration, a key to unlock ideas. These people can take an empty page or fresh canvas and fill it with wonders, unleashing their imaginations.
I am not one of these people. To me, a blank space is a challenge. I rely on seeds to kickstart me. (This is probably why I am a fan of what has been called “remix culture”, taking existing things and making new things out of them, often by combination with other existing things.) My creativity works more from adaptation to constraint than from limitless possibility. (more…)
The pros of Cons!
0
Last weekend I attended a convention. This was not a gaming convention per se; we haven’t had that down in Puerto Rico to the best of my knowledge. I remember hearing about a gaming convention being held at the Universidad de Puerto Rico around 1990 or 1991. Back then I had just started going out with my first girlfriend and let’s be realistic, hormones trumps gaming. If anybody from Puerto Rico can confirm if that convention happened I would really appreciate it. But I digress…
We have cons, but they are a different affair. For the longest time they would be dealers of collectibles gathered in one location, it would be purely commercial. Then they became affairs where they would bring some famous (or semi famous guests) to draw people in and there would be a dealer room. Things have evolved and currently we have at last three established cons, two are really centered round cosplay, anime and manga. Including dance routines, skits and competitions, with various other hobbies represented in the mix, from CCGs, to model builders, Star Wars and historical re-enactors, and now role-playing enthusiasts. There is another convention more centered on comics and media (movies and TV) but I have never participated as a presenter.
This past weekend the latest Kaisen convention, Kaisen: Infinity, was held, the eighth the organizers have put together. I have gone to five of those, and on the last two the Puerto Rico Role Players Facebook group has participated. I have written about the group before, and specifically about one of the games we played this week. One of the things we do is spread the word about just what RPGs are and encourage people to game. This weekend was no exception, we ran two demos games, Sailor Moon (yes we did, I guess it was the right venue for it) and a Weird West game. I had also planned a Resolute, Adventurer & Genius game I did not get to run due to time constrains.
