Opening Stargazer’s World to other authors

3

Writers needed! For quite some time now I have thought about opening my blog to other authors. Aside from a few guest posts, 100% of the content on this site has been written by me alone. And keeping up a  “one post per work day” schedule is hard work if you are just one guy.

I gave it some thought, and I am finally ready to open Stargazer’s World to other authors. If you want to join the team, there are a few things you need to know:

  • If you are a member of the team, you retain the copyright to all your posts but you grant me, the owner of the site, a license as detailed on the Legal Information page.
  • I stay in charge of what happens around here. Stargazer’s World is my baby after all and I want to keep some creative control. But have no fear, I am definitely no tyrant. ;)
  • You are free to post about everything you want, as long as it’s about RPGs and within the rules set by the RPG Bloggers Network (and by me of course! Muhahaha)

If you still want to join the team, send me an email (info(at)stargazersworld.com) and tell me, why you want to join the team and what you want to contribute. I will try to reply as fast as possible. If you get accepted you will get a nice entry into the newly-created Team page, a stargazersworld.com email address, and the right to write and publish posts on this fine blog! Welcome to the team!

Five Hundred!

7

Wow! Who would have guessed that I hit the 500 posts milestone that fast. It was in November 2009 when Stargazer’s World reached it’s 400th post. I don’t think I ever had a more successful blog than Stargazer’s World and I have to thank all my readers for their comments and support! I couldn’t have done it without you, guys!

Following the tradition I started way back in January 2001, I will now look back on a few popular posts of the last few months:

  • Unusual dice
D6 Black Ankh The post about Abraham Neddermann and his eBay shop “Unconventional Dice” not only was one of the most successful posts of the last few months, but it was also extremely fun to write. Abraham is truely devoted to his work and he enjoys creating cool new dice on a daily basis. And I have to admit his passion is contagious.  If you haven’t already, you definitely should check out his blog and follow him on Twitter. If you love fancy dice, like I do, you should check out, what he has to offer!
  • The popularity of that post has probably something to do with the extremely successful Dragon Age: Origins computer game but also with the fact that a lot of pen & paper roleplaying fans were interested in what this game had to offer. I recently got the boxed set and as soon as I have the time I will give it a proper review, but my résumé still stands: It’s a great game with a lot of features that especially old-school players will love!

  • Videogames that should be turned into pen & paper RPGs
I love video and computer games almost as much as I love pen & paper roleplaying games. And I often used computer games as inspiration for my tabletop games. So I thought about what games should get a pen & paper treatment similar to the aforementioned Dragon Age game. It seems a lot of you liked that idea, too, and fellow blogger Aaron Broder picked up the meme and wrote about “Other Videogames That Should Be Turned Into Pen and Paper RPGs”.
  • Roleplaying in the Dune universe
Frank Herbert’s Dune is one of my favorite SF books and I would always have loved to play in a game set into the Dune universe, but alas the only official Dune RPG Dune: Chronicles of the Imperium by Last Unicorn Games has never been properly released aside from a limited edition of 3000 copies sold at GenCon 2000. So I tried to find alternatives for that rare RPG.

Ok, I think that covers the most popular posts. Now let’s have a look at the statistics:

  • Total number of posts: 501 (including this one)
  • Total number of approved comments: 2,128
  • Number of total views: 118,537
  • Busiest day: 4,631 — Wednesday, April 8, 2009
  • Active WordPress plugins: 28
  • Technorati authority: 128
  • Google Page Rank: 3
  • Cups of coffee consumed by me during the writing of that post: 0
  • Word count of this post: 512

Ok, it’s now time to return to our regular program! ;)

Twitter Trouble!

20

Doppelgänger This post has nothing to with roleplaying games, but with something happening on Twitter right now. Please don’t stop reading, because I need your help!

Some hours ago some person started tweeting to @daneofwar’s Followers (and people he followed) and accused him of scamming money from him. I doubt there’s any truth to that accusation, especially because this person soon started impersonating people @daneofwar was connected with through Twitter. He also started posting personal attacks against not only @daneofwar but also other people as well, like @highmoon, @madbrewlabs and me.

The community is usually pretty quick in reporting the fake accounts as soon as they appear and Twitter promptly closes them, but there must be some way to stop this person posting slander and misinformation all over Twitter. If you know someone who can help or get in touch with the people from Twitter, please do so!

Any help is highly appreciated!

P.S.: I protected my Twitter updates for now and changed my avatar picture. That will not stop the person impersonating me, but it helps me to feel a bit better. If you get any strange tweets that look like they were sent from my account, please double-check the username.

Look at the shiny new theme!

I did a major redesign of “Stargazer’s World” yesterday and although not everything is working as it should, I am very happy with the result so far. Of course there are some minor drawbacks, like the loss of the starscape background. I tried to put it back in, but it looked a bit weird.

Stargazer's WorldOk, let’s have a look at the new features after the break then…

A Merry Christmas!

1

I just came back from the Christmas Eve dinner at my parents and decided it was the perfect time to wish you all a merry Christmas!

As you’ve probably noticed I am taking a small hiatus from blogging but I will be back soon! So stay tuned and take care!

I like this!

Inspired by what Berin Kinsman wrote some hours ago on Facebook, I added the WP Likes 2.0 plugin to my blog. It allows readers to “like” posts on the fly if they find them interesting.

I’ve also added a “Top Liked Posts” widget on the sidebar on the right. I hope you like the new feature!
